While there's no train station in Val Gardena itself, you can take the train to nearby cities and continue by bus.

Via Bolzano

  • Buses run frequently throughout the day

Via Chiusa/Klausen

  • Take train to Chiusa station (on Brenner line)
  • Connect to SAD bus to Ortisei
  • Shorter bus journey than from Bolzano

By Bus

SAD (South Tyrolean Transport) operates regular bus services throughout the region.

  • Line 350: Bolzano - Ponte Gardena - Ortisei - Selva
  • Frequency: Every 30-60 minutes
  • Duration: About 1 hour from Bolzano
  • Tip: The Mobilcard offers unlimited bus travel in South Tyrol

By Car

Driving offers the most flexibility and allows you to explore the stunning Dolomite passes.

From the South (Brenner/Innsbruck)

  1. Take the A22 Brenner motorway southbound
  2. Exit at Chiusa/Klausen
  3. Follow SS242 to Val Gardena
  4. Continue to Ortisei (about 20 minutes from the motorway)

From Verona/Venice

  1. Take A22 northbound toward Brenner
  2. Exit at Bolzano Nord
  3. Follow signs to Val Gardena/Gröden
  4. Take SS242 to Ortisei

Driving Tips

  • Winter tires or chains are required November-April
  • The roads are well-maintained but can be winding
  • Fuel up before entering the valley (limited stations)
  • A22 motorway requires a toll (vignette or pay at stations)
